Professor Richard Barrett-Jolley

I am a Reader in neuropharmacology in the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Diseases, University of Liverpool where I am research Theme lead for Physiological and Systems Approaches to Ageing and teach pharmacology, primarily to veterinary students. I have been in Liverpool since 2003, but my previous posts include a British Heart Foundation Independent Fellowship at the University of Birmingham (2000-2003) and a Royal Society visiting Fellowship in the Physiology Department of University of Kyoto, Japan (1994). My Doctorate was obtained at the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford (1992). Outside of the University, I serve on the BBSRC, NC3Rs and Pain Relief Foundation grant funding panels and have won an award for Public Engagement activity. My research focusses on the pharmacology, function and analysis of ion channels in both health and disease, both in humans and other animals.
